Addis Ababa, Ethiopia– February 3, 2025 (E.F.P.M): The Ethiopian Federal police and the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia organized here today seminar on large event security management to serve 38th AU Summit which is scheduled to be held from February 12 to 16, 2025, in Ethiopia Addis Ababa, and other major events that will be held in Ethiopia.

In his opening remarks, the Commissioner General of the Ethiopian Federal Police, H.E Demelash G/Micheal, said that the seminar is not only valuable for the 38th African Union Summit in terms of security and protocol, but also will enhance the strategic and operational leadership capabilities of Ethiopian law enforcement institutions.

We will equip ourselves with modern equipment and technologies to successfully complete this year's African Union summit, said the H.E the Commissioner General.

H.E. Commissioner General Demelash G/Micheal, also stated that, Ethiopia, and China enjoyed robust diplomatic relations in recent years, resulting in the elevation of their partnership with all-weather strategy partners, as stated by the Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed.

As the AU Summit approaches, the Ethiopian federal police remain committed to ensuring a secure and well-coordinated event, with the latest security expertise and international collaboration, he said.

The Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, H.E Mr. Chen Hai on his part noted, the annual African Union Summit to be held here in Addis Ababa is a grand event for Africa. “I have been here in Addis for almost half a year, and could find more and more regional and international events being held here. Moreover; the status of Addis Ababa in Africa and in the world is elevated. Therefore, the security of the VIPs, the participants and the event is of great significance.” He said.

He also added that the seminar will play a very important role in enhancing security capacity, exchanging experiences, and further strengthening law enforcement and security cooperation.

He further stated that China is committed to enhancing security capacity-building in Ethiopia, facilitating experience-sharing programs, and strengthening law enforcement cooperation through such initiatives, the ambassador stated.

The seminar organized today is a direct reflection of the strengthened partnership between the Ethiopian Federal Police and the Ministry of Public Security of China, it was learnt.
